Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers needed for the actual “room to heal”:

  1. Non-artistic painting
We need 2-3 people per child’s room, who do not need any particular skill, but are want to work on the painting and decorating of the rooms. These people will be part of the “core” team that get to meet the child and the family (if you want to), so it would be best if you could commit to the whole project (a two-day commitment, rather than a few hours).
  2. Artistic painting
We need 1 person per child’s room to do the artistic painting.
  3. Sewing
It would be great to have someone who could sew drapes, pillows, throws, etc. This could be done at any time at your convenience (with a certain child’s project in mind).
  4. Hardware / assembly
We need someone who can put up drapery rods, assemble toys, etc.
  5. Carpentry
It would be wonderful to have someone on our team who could make furniture, make creative things out of wood, or do crown moulding.
  6. Shopping
We need someone who likes to shop for décor, furniture, etc., and is willing to do the actual legwork to purchase the items needed for a particular theme. Depending on budget (see fundraising below), this person will probably need to know how to value shop.
  7. Childcare
A lot of people have expressed an interest in painting and decorating, except they are moms and obviously can’t bring the kids along. If there was someone who was willing to watch 4-6 kids for a day, so that 2-3 other moms could go paint and decorate, please let me know!
  8. Other
Is there another skill that you have that would be helpful, but that I am forgetting? If so, please let me know!

Other volunteers:

  1. Fundraising
This is probably the most important role, since without money, the Room to Heal Foundation will ultimately not exist. I believe there are two ways of fundraising. First, is simple and easy, through family and friends. If you are talking about this project, and someone seems interested in donating money, please simply give them a card, and ask them to send a check! This is how I think we will get the money for the first couple rooms. Once we have done a couple rooms, I think that we can solicit home improvement, home décor, and furniture stores and ask them to sponsor a room. I believe that sponsoring a room will take between $1,000 and $10,000; I know this is a big range, but it depends a lot on the particular medical needs of the child.
  2. Donee Selection
It is important for both the donees and the donors that we find the proper donees. For example, I do not believe that a kid in Coto with an ear infection is the proper donee. If you know someone specific, please let me know.
  3. Volunteer Scheduling / Organization
I believe that it might take a lot of time to schedule which people are actually interested in helping on a particular date (especially since many of us are moms). If anyone is interested in putting together the teams for a particular child’s room, please let me know.
  4. Bookeeping
I assume that I will end up with this role, but if anyone is actually interested, by all means, let me know! 100% of donations will go to the charitable cause, so no one will be paid for annual tax returns/ bookkeeping, Secretary of State filing, etc.

Please contact us if you are interested in volunteering.
