Jessica's Garden

Jessica Leoni is a little girl who loves to dance. She loves pink and purple, she owns several tutus, and she has the unending love and support of two wonderful parents. What sets Jessica apart from most other little girls her age is that she is battling with a fatal disease called Niemann-Pick Type C (NP-C).

This disorder causes progressive deterioration of the central nervous system due to the body's inability to metabolize cholesterol. Consequently, large amounts of cholesterol accumulate within the liver, spleen, and brain. This metabolic disorder leads to a series of neurological problems. It has been termed as a childhood form of Alzheimer's. There have been many people who have helped fight for Jessica's cause. However, the Room to Heal Foundation felt it was time to fight for Jessica's inner peace. It was time to create a room for Jessica where she could feel warm and cozy.

“Jessica's Garden” bloomed into a tranquil place full of roses, butterflies, and a garden fence laced with ivy. Jessica deserved to have a room that allowed her to feel happy and safe. She now has her own garden created with love, adorned with butterfly kisses, and blessed by angels. It is a place where she can play, ponder, or pray. If you would like to find out more about the “Fight for Jessica” or Niemann-Pick Type C, please visit www.fightforjessica.com for more details. We will never find a cure for these tragic diseases without more people getting involved.

Room to Heal is always in search of people who are willing to volunteer their time, talents, or resources. Please help us continue to make a difference in the lives of children who need a peaceful space to rest each night as they continue to fight for their lives each and every day.
